Numurkah Singers Theatre was established in 1963 to perform at the annual Numurkah Rose Festival, held every Easter. Their debut performance was the esteemed Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, "Pirates of Penzance," which proved so successful that the performers wanted to continue their shows. Subsequently, they followed up with "The Mikado" in September of that year. Recognizing their potential, the group established a company; thus, the Numurkah Singers Theatre emerged. The group drew inspiration for its name from Numurkah's status as a "singing town," known widely for its choral work and stage productions dating back to the 1800s.

In 1980, the Singers erected their permanent home,  affectionately known as "The Singers Shed." The building is situated on Quinn Street in Numurkah and is a testament to the group's resounding success.

In 1983, the Numurkah and District Choristers emerged as a complement to the existing Singers members, and they continued to delight audiences annually for the next 15 years, forming a mass choir comprising approximately 80 members and a 40-piece orchestra.

Regrettably, in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic dealt a heavy blow to theatrical troupes, thereby necessitating a cessation of all performances by the Singers company. Yet, in 2022, they splendidly returned with a production of "Oliver!" that seamlessly united both the senior and junior companies, much to the delight of both the Singers and its spectators.

The 60th anniversary of Numurkah Singers Theatre's formation and the inaugural show was celebrated in 2023, with the group excited to continue entertaining audiences with their diverse performances encompassing music, dance, drama and humour. Community members living in the town and district have been integral to the company's team, serving as cast members, chorus singers, and crew members responsible for areas including lighting, makeup, design, publicity, and costumes. As the group gained experience, it has attracted more participants, and currently, productions usually feature approximately 100 people. This fact attests to the skill and passion of residents in the region.
